We consider our participation in Healthy Central Florida, as part of Healthy Maitland, a vital part of the Library’s function.
Walking Maitland: We have regular morning walks every Thursday morning at 6:30. There are several measured trails to choose from, all originating from the Library. The walks are good for your physical health, but they are also good for your social life, as participants often adjourn to the Library for tea or coffee.
In addition, the Library is actively organizing more measured walking trails in Maitland, with more than seven miles of available trails in the Maitland Center area.
Healthy Cooking: We have a variety of cooking programs available for our patrons. All cooking series are held in the Community Room.
Gluten-Free Cooking: Join us on the first Monday of each month as Mary-Jeanine Ibarguen brings us delicious gluten-free recipes. Don’t feel that having to remove gluten from your diet means having to remove flavor or satisfying meals.
Healthy Chefs of Maitland: Professional area chefs will bring us an eight-part series on high quality food made in healthful ways. Join us on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00. For more information and a full line-up of scheduled restaurant professionals, click here.
Vegetarian Cooking: Cathy Alphin and Terri Kowalski, Master Food and Nutrition Volunteers with the Orange County Extension, are offering a three-month series of demonstrations, proving that meatless doesn’t have to mean flavorless. Vegetarian Cooking with be offered on the third Tuesday of each month, with February focusing on breakfast, March on lunch, and April on dinner.
We ask that you register for our cooking programs, because instructors will be making their dishes for all to taste and enjoy. You can register through our calendar or by calling 407-647-7700.
