At the Heart of Maitland Since 1896

Cultural Cooks

Everyone loves to try to new foods and learn about different countries. Through this series of workshops we have developed the opportunity for area cooks to show off their cooking and expertise of a particular country. The areas we have visited include Vietnam, Italy, Venezuela, the Caribbean, Cameroon, Liberia, and the American South.

Currently, we have two Cultural Cooks series and occasional special guests. The Cultural Cooks workshops consist of demonstrations of recipes and tastings of the items made that day. All workshops are presented in the Community Room.

Ha Roda is the Pho Queen and author of the James Beard Award-nominated The Vietnamese Kitchen. Ha has been presenting Vietnamese cuisine at the Maitland Public Library since 2010. The Vietnamese series takes place on the third Sunday of each month at 3:00 p.m.

Angela Rivera is a native of Sicily and brings her delicious home cooking to us on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Angela has presented several guest demonstrations in the past and has now agreed to bring us a series! For the Spring of 2014, Angela will be focusing on desserts.

Did you know that we have cooking for kids, too? Check out our Cultural Cooks series on the second Wednesday afternoon each month.

In addition to the Cultural Cooks series, we have cooking series as part of our Healthy Maitland program, including our Healthy Chefs demonstrations, gluten-free cooking, and vegetarian cooking.

We ask that you register for our cooking programs, because instructors will be making their dishes for all to taste and enjoy. You can register online or by calling 407-647-7700.
