Friends of the Maitland Public Library
The Friends of the Maitland Public Library is a non-profit corporation with the purpose of supporting and enhancing library services. The Friends promote the services and facilities of the library by sponsoring events of interest to the community.
Residents and members are kept abreast of library activities by way of a semi-annual newsletter.
The Friends raise funds to purchase books and equipment for the library through biannual book sales.
Volunteers are encouraged to help sort donations; set up, organize and cashier at book sales; and serve on the Friends board.
The Maitland Public Library accepts volunteers, both adult and youth ages 14 – 17 may apply to volunteer for the Library in positions for which they are qualified. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have written parental permission.
The Library appreciates all of the volunteers who generously give of their time and talents to assist the library in its function. If a volunteer knows that s/he will are going to be late or miss coming in should notify their volunteer coordinator as soon as possible. Volunteers need to give a positive image to the public. Volunteers need to dress appropriately for a business casual atmosphere. There are times that in the course of volunteering in the library patrons will ask you questions, and it is important to only answer directional questions and not answer any informational questions.
It is the responsibility of volunteers to keep up to date any personal information, such as a change of address, telephone number, and emergency contact information with their volunteer coordinator. We have a rewards ceremony as a way to show thanks to our volunteers. If volunteers are interested in applying for a paid position within the library, we encourage them to fill out an employment application and compete with other applicants.
